Planet Killer Asteroid
It is the biggest object detected by astronomers in the previous eight years and is “possibly harmful” to Earth, yet it is hidden from view by the Sun. Three additional NEAs were discovered in the inner Solar System, between the orbits of Earth and Venus, according to a research published recently in The Astronomical Journal. Researchers, including those from the NOIRLab at the United States National Science Foundation, have identified three space rocks, one of which is the 1.5-kilometer-wide asteroid 2022 AP7, whose trajectory might put it in the path of Earth someday.
According to the researchers, these results also provide insight into the movement of asteroids around the inner Solar System and clarify the distribution of smaller bodies throughout the galaxy.
