The elite students at the school have gone on boat trips and thrown messages in bottles into the Gulf Stream for the previous five years, according to Charles Temple, an English teacher at Ocracoke School in Hyde County.

Before Elena Bretan tagged the school in a Facebook post explaining that she had discovered a message inside a bottle on a beach in Setbal, which is about 6,000 kilometres away, Temple said he never heard of any of the bottles having been found.
A image of the eight graduates from the class was included in the message, along with a statement indicating the photo was taken on July 26, 2020.

The instructor made it clear that the bottle belonged to Alan Doshier, who is presently employed on a fishing boat in the Bahamas and most likely is still unaware that it has been located.
