Li Ching Yuen, Chinese herbalist who lived 256 Years and had 200 children: Unbelievable

Humans have a life expectancy of roughly 80 to 85 years on average, with some countries having a somewhat higher figure. While the average life expectancy in China is around 75 years, this Chinese man Li Ching Yuen lived for 256 years.

The legend of the Chinese herbalist Li Ching Yuen

Many people refuse to believe this claim, although most people believe that a man can live to be 200 years old. Isn’t it incredible? That’s how long a person’s family tree or a country’s history may be! However, the legend is that Chinese herbalist Li Ching Yuen lived to be 256 years old. Li Ching-Yuen was a Chinese herbalist, martial artist and tactical advisor, know for his supposed extreme longevity, who lived from 1677 until 1928. Although Li Ching-Yuen claimed to be born in 1734, birth records in Qi Jiang Xian, Szechun province, show that he was born in 1677.

Indeed, others argue that, because no good records were kept in those (old) days, Li Ching-Yuen alias Li Ching-Yun may have lived longer – as in, his age may have been greater than the 256 years recorded!

What allowed Li Ching- Yuen to live for 256 years?

According to legend, Li Ching-Yuen was a physician and herbalist who understood a lot of secrets to good health and longevity, but he was also a sex enthusiast. We can only presume that because he had 23 wives! And sex is widely regarded as one of the healthiest activities.

Li had learned the secrets of a long life from a man who had lived for 500 years, according to one of his followers. One of these secrets was drinking rice wine. Meditation was also a secret. Li would sit for hours at a time with his hands on his lap and his eyes closed. He claimed that having a serene mind is the key to living for at least a century.

Li was born in Sichuan, China, in 1736 and lived there his entire life. Li, a dedicated and well-known Chinese herbalist, began gathering herbs at an early age. These plants are thought to be the key to his long life and good health. In his search for these herbs, he travelled to far-flung locations such as Thailand. The herbs picked by the herbalist were also sold. He continued to sell herbs that others harvested for him after he stopped collecting them himself.

The man was known to have died 256 years later, on May 6, 1933. Li was said to have a photographic memory and to be highly specific about his way of living. He never drank or smoked, and he never drank heavy drinks. He made it a point to eat on time, go to bed early, and rise early.

Li Ching-Yuen’s motto was “Keep a quiet heart, sit like a tortoise, walk sprightly like a pigeon and sleep like a dog”.

Li once gave Chinese historian Wu Chung certain documents in which the Imperial Chinese Government congratulated him on his 150th and 200th birthdays.
