Over the weekend, 178 individuals with the name Hirokazu Tanaka gathered in an auditorium in Tokyo’s Shibuya neighbourhood, setting a Guinness World Record for “the largest gathering of individuals with the same name.” The previous record, held by 164 Martha Stewarts who gathered in the US in 2005, was broken by this group.

Hirokazu Tanaka, a Tokyo-based company employee, organised the event. According to a Japanese newspaper, The Mainichi Shimbun, Hirokazu Tanaka, a professional baseball player, joined the Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes in 1994, which piqued Tanaka’s curiosity in persons with the same name. It’s interesting to note that the baseball player attended the record crowd.
